Hubbard Free Library announces pottery demo

The 33rd OHD Road Race Winners

Seth Hasty and Rosalea Kimball won the men’s and women’s titles at the 2012 Old Hallowell Day 5K.   Details in the Kennebec Journal.

Seth Hasty, left, and Joe Viselli were neck and neck as they headed south on Second Street about half way through the Old Hallowell Day 5K on Saturday morning in Hallowell. Hasty pulled ahead for the win with a time of 17 minutes,17 seconds. Viselli finished second with a time of 17:35.

Old Hallowell Day was birthday celebration to remember

If you’ve ever been to an Old Hallowell Day event, “serious” probably isn’t the word you’d use to describe it. “I think everyone here is serious about celebrating our 250th anniversary,” Mayor Charlotte Warren said. “We really wanted to host the biggest party in central Maine.” read more.

Announcing — the Old Hallowell Day schedule!

Monday, July 16 UPDATE! – The first 400 Old Hallowell Day program booklets have been distributed downtown!  So far we have distributed to Slates Bakery,  Slates,  Boynton’s and Dom’s Barber Shop.  We will distribute to City Hall Tuesday morning.  Then to other locations as soon as they are printed, which should be later  Tuesday and Wednesday.

Visit Vaughan Homestead on Old Hallowell Day

Saturday, July 21st, Noon-4:00

  • Following the Old Hallowell Day parade on Water St., take the trolley, drive, or walk up to the Homestead and join a Revolutionary War regiment of reenactors at their encampment overlooking the Kennebec River (for those with young children, musket fire will be loud)
  • Participate in a demonstration of colonial children’s games by Fort Western staff
  • Watch log hewing and metal smithing demonstrations
  • Take a self-guided tour of the Vaughan Home and the terraced perennial gardens
  • Hike the trails in the Vaughan Woods to see the arched bridges and dip your toes in the Vaughan Brook 
  • And when you need to take a rest, sit in the shade on the piazza for a spectacular view of the Kennebec River

Directions:  Do not rely on google maps or GPS to find us!  They will lead you astray!  We are at 2 Litchfield Rd at the 90 degree curve where Second St. becomes Litchfield Rd. in Hallowell.  From Second St., the homestead entrance is on your left.  There is a brick pillar on either side of the driveway.  The right one is marked as 2 Litchfield Rd. You will see a white building in the distance.  Parking is available.
